Research Interests:

Generally: Foundations of Mathematics and Computer Science, IT for Interoperability in open and heterogeneous systems based on SOA,

In particular: Mathematics, Logic, Type theory, Electronic Business Processes, Robotics - multi-robot systems ,  Computational Neuroscience (Neuroinformatics), new social media

Engaged in the following research projects as a coordinator:

  • Neiberia (http://neiberia.com/) is a new communication platform integrating the social and business aspects of our lives, offering sophisticated tools and proposing a new form of on-line business cooperation.

Everything in Neiberia is tailor-made as you can choose between a wide variety of functionalities basing on your own needs. A registered user can have both personal and company profile and create and participate in communities (either informal or business oriented) and e-markets. Both communities and e-markets may be global, transnational or local. The locality here being a key factor, as in the world where everything tends to be going global, more and more people do not even know their neighbors. That is why Neiberia is intended to “Go local” as opposed to most social media and enable us to communicate and do business within our neighborhoods. Neiberia is integrated with a new technology (invented by us) called 3D Markets that projects 3D models of the real city markets into social media.

  • RobREx - Autonomia dla robotów ratowniczo-eksploracyjnych. Project supported by a grant from Narodowe Centrum Badań i Rozwoju PBS1/A3/8/2012; 2012 - 2015.

Rescue and exploration robots (RERs) aid rescue crews in the face of disasters. Current RERs, including those manufactured by PIAP, are teleoperated, what significantly diminishes their operating range and requires constant human supervision. The conducted market analysis shows that in the near future the demand for autonomous devices will dominate. The goal of the project is to produce a set of technologies and an adequate architecture necessary for the production of autonomous RERs, or in general service and field robots. The project will deliver technologies enabling: perception of the environment; navigation and control of mobile platforms and manipulators; impedance control of manipulators and grippers; intelligent two-handed manipulation; active sensing and the use of ontology common to people and robots. The results will be demonstrated on two robots: a mobile manipulator SCOUT/GRYF manufactured by PIAP and a two-handed robot manipulator.

  • ITSOA: New information technologies for e-business and e-society based on the SOA paradigm. (https://www.soa.edu.pl/web/guest/home) Supported by EC and the Polish Government POIG, 01.01.2009 – 31.12.2012. Principal coordinator is AGH Krakow. Stanisław Ambroszkiewicz was appointed as the coordinator on behalf of ICS PAS - a partner of the project consortium.
    • The goal of the project was to develop new information technologies (IT) for distributed systems based on the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) paradigm. The central point was to automate access to both individual services and complex business processes based on these services. Key challenges here include: development of proper service description languages; enabling providers to publish their services and clients to search for the services they require; creation of semantics-based protocols for service composition in the framework of complex and potentially long-running business processes As a result of the project, a new IT was proposed for automation of electronic business processes (see http://www.itsoa.ipipan.eu ).
  • ELA-enT: Protocols and prototype of a platform for realization of electronic market for service with special emphasis on people excluded from labor market. (https://ent.ipipan.waw.pl/) Supported by Polish Government MNiSzW Nr R02 036 02;  2.03.2007 - 1.03. 2010.
    • Electronic markets do exist but are like separate islands with separate specific and usually limited range of industries and fields of application as well as closed technological solutions. The lack of common standards impedes their integration. The aim of the project is limited to electronic market for services only (EMS in short). The essence of such a market is the automation of the following processes: publishing offers by service providers; finding relevant offers by customers willing to purchase services; arranging a deal between the customer and service provider; and finally signing a contract for the arranged services.
  • Robo-enT: Interoperability in Open Heterogeneous Multirobot Systems. (http://ent.ipipan.waw.pl/robo-ent) Supported by the Polish Government MEiN grant No. 3 T11C 038 29. 9.12.2005 – 8.12.2008.
    • The challenge of the project was to situate software agents in open systems consisting of cognitive heterogeneous robots that are supposed to perform jointly complex tasks. The starting points are: the current paradigm of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), and the semantic interoperability between heterogeneous robots.
  • Entish: e-Lingua for Service Description and Composition. (http://www.ipipan.waw.pl/mas/) Supported by the Polish Government KBN project: 7 T11C 040 20 .  From 01.01.2001 to 31.12.2003. Currently, the project is supported by ICS PAS and II UP.
    • The challenges of the project: How to integrate heterogeneous software applications in an open and distributed environment?
How to construct a generic open language describing data processing with precise machine understandable semantics?
  • Designing Multi-Agent Systems: a new programming paradigm based on intelligent and autonomous agents. Supported by the Polish Government  KBN project 8 T11C 031 10: 1996 -  1998
  • Blind-enT: making object visible for blind people. (http://ent.ipipan.waw.pl/blind-ent) Supported by Institute of Computer Science of the University of Podlaskiej and British Council. 2004-2005.
